Whole Town Strategy
 |
What are the consequences of small towns ignoring the theme? |
Failure to plan for the ‘whole’ can result in:
A vision only for a particular aspect, sector or group, possibly leading to exclusion.
- Unplanned or out-of-control growth and/or imbalanced development.
- Ill-judged actions, projects and initiatives (e.g. ‘white elephants’) .
- Poor use of time and money, e.g. filling in the gaps with later effort.
- An inadequate, or ill-formed, case for external funding.
- Lack of political and/or community support.
- Poor sense of strategic priorities and ad hoc decision-making.
- Inadequate fit with the ‘bigger picture’ (see ‘Long Term Planning’ component).
- Fragmentation of effort.
