Definition of theme

Town Centre Management (TCM) relates to the relationships between various facilities within a central district of a town. It includes both public services, like government facilities, and private services, like retail, leisure, cultural and business facilities. Successful TCM projects work to make the district more attractive to both residents and visitors (see ‘Tourism’ and ‘Identity and Culture’ components). They encourage partnership and co-operation rather than competition between the various facility and service providers. The end goal should be to create a thriving vibrant town centre. This will give the entire district a competitive advantage over other areas either on the edge of or outside the town.
