About this Toolkit

What specific methods did the SusSET towns use to research the toolkit?

The SusSET partners took several approaches to achieve the end result:

  • Conduct profiles of each town
  • Produce baseline reports of each town
  • Multi-town working groups to establish various small town themes
  • Themes matrix to establish common interests
  • Major conference events in each nation
  • Inter-town thematic seminars
  • Experimentation in cluster working (e.g. within each nation; across nations)
  • Establish international locational groups (e.g. coastal, city proximity, rural service)
  • Engagement of politicians, professionals and community representatives from the towns
  • Academic reviews by university staff
  • Liaison with small towns associations and other INTERREG projects
  • Limited on-the-ground testing of transferable theories and practices identifying key learning points and best practice examples
