About this Toolkit

How have the SusSET towns contributed to the toolkit?

Project partners in SusSET were deliberately selected to give a balanced mix of EU nations with much diversity. One nation from each of the four EU zones (north, south, east and west) was selected to participate, each putting forward three towns from one region with the potential to work as a cluster group. The project sought to examine towns in three different locational circumstances – coastal, city proximity and rural service. Although close to major cities (Aberdeen, Gothenburg, Gdansk and Patras), the towns chosen can be considered as reasonably ‘rural’ and also ‘peripheral’ to Europe’s socio-economic centre. The INTERREG IIIc programme funding facilitated these towns to work together and, to some extent, test different theories and practices to establish what works for them and what could work for others – see www.interreg3c.net
